Movie Review: The Theory of Everything

Eddie Redmayne has won over my heart. A brutally honest performance by the actor left me with tears almost every half hour into the movie. The Theory of Everything, directed by James Marsh, tells the story of Cambridge physicist Stephen Hawking and his journey with love, science and ALS.

Khoobsurat Review - The Bollywood Movie has plenty of Beauty but no soul

Fawad Khan is awesome and Sonam Kapoor has improved no end but the film is contrived and tedious.
Cast:     Fawad Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Rathna Pathak, Ashok Banthia and Kirron Kher
Stars:    2.5 out of 5

Khoobsurat stars Sonam Kapoor as a top physiotherapist (Milli Chakroborty) who’s summoned to the home of Prince Viram Singh Rathore (played by Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan) to treat his surly, wheelchair bound father. The Disney movie should have been a frothy fairytale about how the bubbly newcomer scandalizes and ultimately wins over the hidebound Raja’s family. Even a cliché can be charming if it’s well done. Khoobsurat, however, fails to build any sort of momentum and while there are some cute scenes, the overall effect is contrived and wearisome.

Raja Natwarlal Review: Predictable and Plodding Raja Natwarlal falls prey to cliche

Raja Natwarlal Review poster
Raja Natwarlal fails to impress despite solid performances from the cast
Cast: Emran Hashni, Humaima Malick, Paresh Rawal, Kay Kay Menon
Verdict: 2.5 stars (of a possible 5)

Raja Natwarlal should have been a breezy con caper but falls short despite some solid performances by the cast. Predictable and plodding, the movie is neither comic enough nor thrilling enough to be memorable.

Dhoom 3 Review - 5 things to love and hate about the Bollywood blockbuster

5 things to love about Dhoom 3

1. Aamir Khan

He is simply awesome in this film. The film perks up whenever he is on-screen. His sexy pumped avatar, his screen presence and his sheer range as an actor make the film worthwhile.

Review: Gori Tere Pyar Mein - Lacklustre at best

Review Gori Tere Pyar Mein - Kareena Kapoor & Imran Khan
Gori Tere Pyar Mein could have been a much better film
One thing is certain – the combination of Imran Khan and director Punit Malhotra is like a lead balloon. Their attempts at rom-coms are enough to make anyone “hate luv stories”. A Bollywood romantic comedy is deceptively simple. Songs, dances and a few laughs frame a basic formula - boy meets girl, kahani mein twist, love conquers all. Gori Tere Pyar Mein is a classic example of how to get it wrong.

Yeh Jawani Hai Dewaani review - Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone shine in Karan Johar Film

Why you should watch Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

Published in the Express Tribune on 2nd June 2013

The romantic comedy is frothy and entertaining
At first glance, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) seems formulaic and a mish-mash of other Karan Johar films — a bespectacled goody-two-shoes girl, a fun loving guy who’s a bit of player and a seminal trip. The tomboy who can’t express her love, the big fat Indian wedding and the guy pulling the girl onto a train — we’ve seen it all before.
However, writer and director Ayan Mukerji gives this romantic comedy a deft twist and a thoroughly modern treatment. The result is a frothy, feel-good, marvelously entertaining film.
